Veteran Rewards

Veteran Rewards

Aion is two months deep, as of November 22nd, which means that your two month Veteran Rewards are available (to those of you playing since launch).

If you apply the "Honored Daeva" veteran rewards to your PlayNC account, you will receive FOUR Lodas Amulets and FOUR Revival Stones.

A nice little bonus just for sticking around.

Another 11,000 Botters Banned

Andrew Beegle, NCSoft Community Representative, recently tweeted the following announcement about recent bans on bots:

Another Massive Ban today! Over 11,000 bots destroyed! ;)

To honest players, and even a few of those that may have already quit, this is great news. However, NCSoft is going to have to maintain the momentum if they plan on making any headway on the automated farming force.

November Aion Community Address

November Aion Community Address

Lance Stites, Executive Producer of NCsoft West, took a few moments this early Thanksgiving morning to give a Community Address. He touches on hot topics like RMT (real money transactions), botting, paid server transfers, the dreaded cryengine.dll bug, and much more.

We are constantly delighted that so many of you purchased and are now playing Aion. Shortly after Aion’s launch we experienced longer queue times than we would have liked. We reacted by working immediately on a server transfer system. However, the server transfer we began to implement was a rush job, and we are not happy with the result. As it currently stands, transferring characters is a manual process that would shift a significant percentage of our customer service staff members’ focus from issues like real money transfers/trading (RMT) and botting that we feel should take priority.

It’s a difficult decision, but we are delaying the deployment of our server transfer system until we can do it right for you. We will eventually honor our promise to give eligible players the opportunity to transfer for free, but we’re shooting to implement transfers in the first half of 2010, though we don’t have a specific deadline for you.

Be sure to read the entire community address from the official site.

November Aion Community Address

Hello everyone,

It’s been a busy couple of weeks here since the launch of Aion. The post-launch period of many games means that you have time for a bit of rest. After an MMO launches however, your job is just beginning.

Recently, we released a lot of information on the sales and success of Aion in respect to Europe and North America, and also globally. We are off to a very, very respectable start.

Moving on to much more positive news, in the past week we deployed a new patch to address a CryEngine.dll crash that we’ve seen reported commonly. (If you’re still seeing this issue, please report it in our tech support forums.)

Speaking of forums, our Community Team is focusing again on the forums and the website. The members of the team are investigating ways to improve the player experience in the forums and website. We are taking your feedback to update and improve the Aion web services overall.

It’s no secret that we’ve had our share of RMT spammers and been plagued by the associated problem of bots. We’re working to eliminate these persistent pests through a multipronged approach. We have instituted a dedicated Game Surveillance Unit (GSU). The GSU is a team whose primary mission is to identify and ban users violating our terms of service: bot users, RMT chat spammers, and the like. We just did an in-depth and focused sweep through the game to ban users in violation using some new methods with exciting capabilities that I’m personally very happy about. These new methods are going to catch a lot of bot users who thought they were safe. This week we’ve banned over 27,000 of these accounts, and we’ll keep searching for other offenders to continue improving the quality of your game environment.

Finally, outside of the complaints about bots and the RMT vermin, perhaps the biggest criticism from our players comes in relation to the pacing, experience curve, item drops, and overall difficulty and risk vs. reward in Aion current gameplay. I’m glad to share some preliminary responses from the Development Team and affirm to you their willingness to address these issues. Obviously, data tuning on a live MMO isn’t something you do carelessly, and it will take some time to fully implement. In the near future, we hope to deploy a short-term enhancement to address some of concerns that you have told us about across the board. We’re currently testing some game variables to increase experience gain and other factors. We look forward to sharing some good news on this soon.

Stepping away from the game as it is, we’re showing off Aion and its future plans this week at the G-Star convention in Korea, as well as DreamHack in Sweden! If you haven’t already had the chance, take a peek at the future of Aion.

Take care and see you in the Abyss,

Lance Stites

Executive Producer, NCsoft West

Regarding the Visions Trailer

Regarding the Visions Trailer

Just so you know your loyal team here at the Aion Tower is doing their due diligence, I inquired to NCsoft about the content of their latest trailer.

Here's what they said:

"The trailer shown at this year’s G-star event is a glimpse at the future of Aion. As you can tell from the movie, the development team is hard at work on evolving and growing the Aion experience in some very unique and innovative ways. Needless to say, we’re very excited about Aion’s future and look forward to providing you with further updates when they’re available."

I figured as much, but wanted to check. Thanks NCsoft!

How do you feel about the trailer? Excitement? Confusion? Disappointment?

16,000 Reasons Aion is Less Annoying

16,000 Reasons Aion is Less Annoying

NCsoft took down the Aion servers earlier today, and when players logged back in, they should have noticed something.

Like a breath of fresh air, the newly dubbed holiday icon "Ban Hammer Claus" came a swinging and removed over 16,000 accounts from the game.

The official post on the official forums details the process and what to do if you were "unfairly" one of the 16,000 Atreia-deported players.

It's a simple enough tweet that Tamat twittered this morning: "On November 24th, we will be showing a movie that demonstrates the future of Aion with actual gameplay."

But what does it all mean?

The 1.5.1 patch dropped yesterday, so any new things coming up are sure to be surprising, hopefully in a good way. What are your thoughts on this upcoming cinematic experience?

Bom on [DE]Balder asks:

“I've been crashing less since the 1.5.1 patch. Did you guys intentionally fix the Crysystem.dll problem?”

Yes, the crash issues during fortress sieges and other intensive activities were fixed with the patch we applied to the servers on Wednesday. In case you haven’t read the final patch notes, take a look at the very last paragraph where the stability improvements are listed. We received this fix shortly before our scheduled maintenance and decided to include it together with the patch. We are glad that it works well for you.

This fix was difficult to implement and test because it took many people to recreate the issue, and many complex parameters had to be taken into consideration to not just fix it for a specific configuration, but for all players. Many testers had to coordinate together every time a possible fix was created. It is much more difficult than fixing something that a single person can test alone. That said, if you’re still experiencing problems, please report them in our support forum.

Grimgutt on [West]Fregion server asks:

“There has been a rumor going around that SM [Spiritmaster] pets will soon be able to fly with us so we do not lose and have to resummon them every time we fly. Is this true, and if so, how soon?”

Spiritmasters should be delighted to know that the rumor is true! Contrary to some rumors, though, this enhancement will not be part of the 1.5.1 update that will be coming to the NA and EU servers in November. Spiritmaster pets will soon be able to fly and fight along your side while in the air, a feature that will obviously be quite beneficial within the Abyss. As before, you will still only be able to summon a pet while on the ground.

The development team in Korea has implemented the flying pet enhancement, and it’s working to bring the update to the NA and EU servers soon. We don’t have an estimate at this time as to when this update will be implemented in the West. However, we will be releasing more information in the coming weeks.

We’re looking for pictures of our players participating in exciting activities or showcasing Aion-themed merchandise, art, or cosplay. To give you an example of what we’re looking for, Tamat, and Ayase took a moment to pose at the Pike Place Market in Seattle while Amboss did the same almost 5000 miles away at the famous pier in Brighton, UK.
